Day 10 – June 10, 2025
55-day Devotional Journey – Day 10
Theme: Work Out Your Salvation
Passage:
“Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence but much more now in my absence, work on your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:12-13 (NIV)
Obedience is a mark of the Lord Jesus who is our model; but Paul proposed another reason why we should obey, obedience is the only way we can fulfill God's will. Paul said, "Work on your own salvation with fear and trembling." This does not mean that we are saved by our deeds; rather, we need to complete the Lord's mission in the world, which requires utmost obedience. Why should it be done with fear and trembling? Peter tells us that all Christians will appear before the judgment seat of Christ on that day (1 Peter 4:17-18). This judgment will not be about sin or punishment but about rewarding according to merit. Because of your obedience and the completion of your mission, you will glorify our Lord in front of the unbelievers. So, you understand why we should fear and tremble! But thank God, because it is from His will, and it is He who works in your heart, enabling you to both make resolutions and put them into practice. As long as we persist in obedience, we will be able to accomplish all the good intentions of the Lord. So, do not worry. God will lead you and He will be with you.
Reflection:
God works in us to will and to act according to His purpose. How can we press on in our salvation, working out God’s will daily as we seek to bring His mission to the world?
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving your only Son to be redeemed for us and to be our example of obedience. We know that it is not easy to fulfill God's will. Besides our fear of facing suffering, we are not used to obeying you in everything and we always have our own opinions. Lord! In addition to enabling us to live an abundant life, what you desire most is that we can share your glory with you when you come. That is, you hope that we can glorify your name. Thank you for your companionship, strength, and guidance along the way. As long as we obey you, we will be able to accomplish our mission and glorify the Lord's name. Please help us, we pray in the name of the Lord,
Amen!
