55-Days Devotional Journey - Day 17
June 17, 2025 (Tuesday)
Scripture:
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”
Philippians 3:8–11 (ESV)
Reflection:
In this passage, Paul vividly portrays the surpassing value of gaining Christ, declaring that everything else in life pales in comparison. For Paul, the treasures often sought by the world—whether financial success, social status, academic accolades, or material possessions—hold no lasting worth when compared to the incomparable richness of knowing Christ. He deliberately expresses that all these things diminish to nothing, their worth rendered meaningless next to the eternal significance of having Jesus as Lord.
Paul further emphasizes the necessity of being united with Christ through faith. This relationship is not earned through human effort or achievement but is a divine gift—a testament to God's boundless love and grace for those He created in His image. The righteousness we receive from God is rooted in His mercy, offering us reconciliation and eternal communion with Him.
Moreover, Paul turns his focus to the hope of resurrection, which points to the promise of eternal life. This hope is not merely a distant dream but a transformative truth that redefines how we live in the present. The resurrection assures us of victory over death and an eternal future with God, stirring within us a longing to live fully for Him.
Reflection Questions:
This passage challenges us to reevaluate our priorities and align our lives with what truly matters. In your daily life, what holds the greatest importance to you? If you desire to live with God as your first priority, what are the things you need to surrender or set aside to make space for Him?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us of the incomparable worth of knowing Christ. Help us to see clearly what truly matters and give us the courage and humility to let go of anything that distracts us from putting You first. Lord, guide us to live with priorities that reflect Your will and have faith to rely on the righteousness that comes from You alone. May the hope of eternal life shape our days, drawing us closer to You. Teach us to treasure Christ above all else and live as a reflection of your love and glory.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
