55-Days Devotional Journey - Day 19
June 19, 2025 (Thursday)

Scripture:
"Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you. Only let us hold true to what we have attained".
Philippians 3:15-16 (ESV)

Reflection:
What Paul is saying in effect in verse 15 is that "the spiritually mature realize that they are not morally and legally perfect," and that their goal is to know more and more of Christ.

Paul is exhorting the first-century church in Philippi (which is applicable to today's church as well) to appraise themselves in a realistic manner. They are to take stock of where they are in their Christian walk, and then live in a manner which is in alignment with that of Christ's character. Paul challenged them to hold true to what they have attained so far and continue growing in Christ.

As a disciple of Christ, we are to be wary of becoming complacent in our spiritual lives, thinking that we have already made it, and staying where we are spiritually. Here Paul is challenging Christians to continue to develop a passionate and active approach to discipleship in our pursuit of Christ.

Reflection Question:
Paul encourages maturity in Christ. As you pursue the mission of Christ, how can you grow in spiritual maturity? How can you help others grow in their walk with Christ?

Prayer:
Father God, may Your Spirit help us to live in a way that reflects our Christian heritage. Help us to continue growing in Christ and to yield to Your Spirit more thoroughly. Change us and transform our inner hearts. Mold us into the person You want us to be, and bring us to grow in spiritual maturity. In Jesus' name, Amen.
