June 1, 20255-Days Devotional Journey - Day 24
Scripture:
“I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:10–13 (ESV)
Reflection: Where does my joy come from?
This passage opens with Paul declaring,“I rejoiced in the Lord greatly”. Despite being imprisoned and facing far from ideal circumstances, joy remains the central theme of his message. Throughout Philippians chapter 4, Paul consistently exhibits a joyful attitude, as seen in verse 4: "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.”
Paul reveals the secret to true joy—finding genuine contentment in every situation. His life was marked by both highs and lows. Before encountering Christ and even before his imprisonment, Paul lacked nothing. In fact, he likely possessed more wealth, status, and material comforts in the first half of his life than after coming to know the Lord. Yet, his letters written from prison radiate vibrant joy. More importantly, they reveal its source: the strength to face all things comes from the Lord—the One who has conquered death and grants life, peace, and enduring strength to His people.
To experience true joy, we are called to follow Paul’s example. Let us draw strength from Christ to meet each day’s tasks, challenges, and missions. May we proclaim that Christ is our source of joy and live as believers who radiate joy and inspire others with a faith that is alive and contagious.
Reflection Question:
In my daily life, who or what often brings me challenges or difficulties? Can these challenges diminish the joy and contentment I receive from believing in the Lord? Where does my joy truly come from?
Prayer:
Dear Abba Father, thank You for the grace that allows me to pray to You anytime and anywhere. I lift up all aspects of my life into Your hands, including those responsibilities and challenges that I feel powerless to handle. I ask You, Lord, to accomplish everything according to Your good will. Let me find contentment in trusting Your mighty power and experience Your constant guidance in my life, feeling the true joy that comes from You. May all glory and praise be to You, my Lord and my God.
In Jesus’s beautiful name I pray, Amen.
